Urd appalam, also known as urad dal papad, is a thin, crispy, disc-shaped flatbread or wafer from the Indian subcontinent made from urad flour, spices, and other ingredients. It is popular in South Indian homes and can be eaten fried or dry. Urd appalam is typically deep-fried or roasted until it becomes crisp.
Urd appalam is a popular accompaniment to Indian meals and goes well with all dishes, especially with curd rice. In South India, it is eaten in entirety with the whole meal, of rasam, and rice, sometimes crunched all over it, sometimes put in the middle of the leaf and eaten along with it.
Some brands of urad appalam include: Maharaja appalam papad, Bells appalam papad, Velam appalam papad, and Take it appalam.
