Bucks, the environment, and our community contributions
We're proud to be proactive community members, making small donations to local causes like schools and social assistance groups throughout the year, every year. We've done this for decades, and we will continue to do so.
In January 2024 we committed to donating at least 1% of our annual revenues to approved environmental non-profits, via our partnership with 1% For the Planet, and we're very happy to announce that we have made just donations to the following local and regional environmental non-profits:
"The Nisqually Land Trust is an independent, private, nongovernmental organization incorporated in 1989 and federally recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation in 1990. Our mission is to protect and steward lands to permanently benefit the water, fish, wildlife, and people of the Nisqually River Watershed."
"GRuB works at the intersection of food, education, and health systems. With roots in the land, we create opportunities for people to learn, lead, and thrive. We envision an equitable world where we are all nourished by healthy relationships, resilient community, and good food. Each year, GRuB directly engages approximately 1,500 Thurston County residents of all ages in relationships-based programming around growing & preparing good food. We primarily work with marginalized young people with low incomes and/or behavioral and disciplinary indicators of high ACE (Adverse Childhood Experience) scores, families with low incomes, students, seniors experiencing hunger, tribal communities, and veterans."
Washington State Trails Association
"Washington Trails Association mobilizes hikers and everyone who loves the outdoors to explore, steward and champion trails and public lands."
Bucks employees decide together which non-profits to support financially. We're lucky to make these contributions only because you, our customers, support your local community by shopping local, with Bucks.
At the end of 2026 it became clear that the administrative costs of the 1% For the Planet Program were themselves about half of the amount that we could donate to non profit causes, and we made the decision to not renew our membership so that we could deliver more of that 1% directly to the non profits we choose. This is significant, as it actually doubles the amount of money that the non-profits receive, simply by not donating under the 1% For the Planet Administrative umbrella.

If you are an impact-minded business and you want to become a One Percent for the Planet partner, join here! The structure itself may be helpful. We found we could do more, directly, and have chosen to do so. Each year we will announce our receipients, right here.
We love being a part of the Puget Sound community, and thank you for being our customers!
