Horsetail — The Ancient Beauty Herb
Long before there were flowers — or dinosaurs — there was horsetail.
A descendant of one of the earth’s most ancient families of plants, horsetail (Equisetum arvense) has survived in recognizable form for hundreds of millions of years. Herbal traditions later gave this peculiar, jointed plant another reputation: as an herb of strength, structure and beauty, particularly associated with the hair, skin and nails.
Horsetail is naturally notable for its mineral content, especially silica, and for generations herbalists have brewed it as a strengthening tonic. It also has an old European tradition as a cleansing and urinary herb.
The flavor is mild, grassy and pleasantly green — far gentler than its prehistoric appearance might suggest.
An ancient plant with an equally ancient herbal reputation.
Sold by the ounce.
