Birch leaves have many uses, including medicinal, culinary, and other: Birch leaves can be used to make herbal tea, which has a delicate, fresh flavor and a subtle peppery taste.
To make the tea, you can crumple the equivalent of 3 to 5 leaves in your hand, twist them, drop them into a cup, pour hot water over them, and steep for a couple of minutes. You can also add lemon balm leaves, lime juice, and simple syrup to taste.
Birch leaves are also used to make remedies to treat a variety of conditions, including sprains, strained muscles, headaches, joint pain, kidney stones, bladder stones, urinary tract infections (UTIs), arthritis, rheumatism, loss of hair, and skin rashes. Birch leaves can also be used as a diuretic to increase urine output. Steaming birch leaves can help clear sinus congestion, and an infusion of birch leaves can cool a fever and help with cold symptoms.
