Amazon Energy Tea — Guayusa
For centuries, people of the Ecuadorian Amazon have brewed guayusa as an invigorating morning drink. A relative of yerba mate, this naturally caffeinated holly leaf produces a remarkably smooth, green, earthy infusion without the pronounced bitterness of many strong teas.
Traditionally enjoyed for wakefulness, energy and stamina, guayusa is an excellent alternative to coffee or conventional tea — good hot, and particularly refreshing iced.
To brew: Use approximately ¼ oz per quart of water. Pour just-boiled water over the leaves, steep 5–10 minutes and strain. Adjust to taste.
One ounce makes approximately four quarts.
Sold by the ounce. Cut and dried guayusa leaf.
