Tasmanian Mountain Pepperberry (Tasmannia lanceolata) is a dried, hand-foraged berry from sustainably managed bushland sites across Tasmania. Used like black pepper, it delivers a fruity, floral start with a lingering spicy heat.
🌿 Flavor & Aroma
- Fruity, floral-forward opening
- Peppery, lingering heat on the finish
- Bolder and darker than the freeze-dried version
🍽 Where You'll Find It
- Common in Australian and New Zealand cooking
- Pairs well with red meats
- Used in beet relish
- Infused into cordials and syrups
🧂 How to Use It
- Substitute for black pepper in most dishes
- Grind fresh for stronger flavor
- Use sparingly at first, heat builds
Note: A freeze-dried version is also available. Freeze drying keeps the berry's original shape, gives a brighter fruit flavor, and can shift toward purple hues, especially in acidic conditions. It is harder to grind and priced higher.
Sold by weight, per oz.
