Allspice, ground (also called pimenta, Jamaica pepper, or myrtle pepper) is made from the dried, unripe berries of Pimenta dioica, a tree native to the Greater Antilles, southern Mexico, and Central America. The name comes from its flavor, which early English traders thought combined cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
