Sea Salt, Fleur de Sel, (literally "flower of salt") has been hand harvested in Guerande, France, an appellation d'origine contrôlée, using traditional methods (i.e. hand raking, by torchlight, naturally evaporated) since the 9th century. Considered one of the purest salts in the world, out of 80 pounds harvested, 3 pounds is fleur de sel de Guerande. Each marsh can yield about 1 kilo (2.2 pounds) of Fleur de Sel per day. Use Fleur de Sel de Guerande as a finishing salt, ie add it to your food on the plate. Delicious on sliced tomatoes, a baked potato with butter, steak, seafood, veggies. A real treat for the true gourmand!
Not all ""Fleur de Sel" is Fleur de Sel de Guerande.
